High academic achievement of Juniors and Seniors is recognized by membership in the National Honor Society.
To be eligible for membership in the National Honor Society, a student must maintain a 3.50 Grade Point Average and must achieve a 94 or higher average for two consecutive semesters in each class. They must be enrolled in the college preparatory program, taking at least two of phase 3 or 4 classes each of the four 9 weeks. Juniors shall be eligible for membership in August. Seniors may enter the National Honor Society no later than October, based on their previous two semesters.
All prospective new members must complete an application. Senior members must take at least six classes their senior year to remain active, and all members are required to participate in four community service projects each year, to be approved by the sponsor.
NHS members will be on probation if standards and/or requirements are not met each 9 weeks, and membership will be revoked when standards and/or requirements are not maintained two consecutive semesters. Those students may re-enter NHS only after eligibility standards are then met for two consecutive semesters (as for new members). Seniors must remain in good standing the rest of their senior year. A student may re-enter NHS only one time during their four years in high school.
No member on probation will be recognized as a NHS graduate.*
The phrase “Graduate with honors” refers to being recognized as a BETA or NHS member at graduation.
