CHS Beta Club Bylaws
The purpose of the Beta Club shall be to promote scholarship, leadership, and good citizenship at Columbia High School. To be eligible for membership in the Beta Club, a student must meet the following criteria:
- achieve a 90 or higher semester average for two consecutive semesters (August - December and January - May) in each class.
- be enrolled in at least three phase three or four classes each of the four nine weeks
- not have served anytime in ISD or OSS for behavior
- not have served office detention (tardiness, dress code/ID violations) for more than two incidents per semester
Freshmen shall be eligible for membership after the second semester. Seniors may enter the Beta Club no later than October, based on their previous two semesters.
All prospective new members will receive an invitation for membership and must complete an application. Senior members must take at least six classes their senior year to remain active, and all members are required to participate in a minimum of four community service projects each school year, two per semester, to be approved by the sponsor. Two projects must benefit Columbia High School.
Beta members will be on probation if standards and/or requirements are not met each 9 weeks, and membership will be revoked when standards and/or requirements are not maintained two consecutive semesters (August - December and January - May.) Those students may re-enter Beta Club only after eligibility standards are then met for two consecutive nine weeks. Seniors must remain in good standing the rest of their senior year. A student may re-enter Beta Club only one time during their four years in high school.
No member on probation will be recognized as a Beta graduate.*
*The phrase “graduate with honors” refers to being recognized as a BETA or NHS member at graduation.
Membership fees are: New members - $15.00 Existing members - $5.00 |
